The Supplementary Beater® is a pre-formed template that is used to create undulations in the weft. This tool was originally designed and patented by me in 2009 to replace the simple cardboard outline I was using. The Supplementary Beater® can be used on any loom and cloth. It has a varied undulation that is completely controlled by the weaver.

Each Supplementary Beater® is expertly hand crafted in Rhode Island out of hard maple and has a lightly oiled perfectly smooth finish and a gently beveled weaving edge.

We carry a 19" Supplementary Beater® with symmetrical undulations and the 29" Supplementary Beater® with asymmetrical undulations. Printed instruction pamphlet included.

Inspired by the warping combs used in commercial textile processing, this tool is redesigned and repurposed for handweavers! The Open Reed® uses a removable top channel to allow individual creativity and innovation in moving warp threads apart and closer together within the same web!

These specially made industrial style stainless steel reeds are 4 ¼” high and come with a separate top channel to keep the warp threads where you place them while weaving and a convenient strap to secure the reed onto the beater. Idea and instruction booklet included. This tool can be used with overhead or underslung beaters on any style loom.

We have partnered with the folks at Weaver House (www.weaverhouseco.com) to offer the Open Reed® from 18" to 24” lengths. We recommend 10 dpi, but other denting is available for custom order. All reeds are 4¼” high and custom made for you at $6.25 per running inch.
