There is a delicacy from patterns in nature that I build between edges – selvedges and deckle edges. In order to communicate this, I use a language that balances between freedom and structure. Handcraft mimics the slow growth of ideas, opportunities, decisions, responsibilities, and paths of my life that abruptly end and then continue. As materials define these actions, weave structures help pattern develop a new definition of intersection and organization of the line. A coherent rhythm progresses giving new ways to observe.
About
“My materials are personified as I work with them. The individual characteristics are enhanced through hand manipulation techniques and conversations between each other. The architecture of form, order/dis-order, movement, substance, and tension are all part of this subjective dialogue. Density contrasts with transparency to create meandering, linear pathways of rhythm. Every fiber has a personality – it is up to us to listen to it.”
